Nate Wood News (Archieve 1)

12/24-Happy Holidays Everyone!! If you live in Colorado...do not miss seeing Kneebody perform at Dazzle in Denver (information can be found at the Kneebody page). I want to extend my best wishes to all the members of Kneebody during the holiday season.

If your New Year's Eve plans call for going out, keep in mind the appearance of Kneebody at Dazzle, 930 Lincoln St. Kneebody, formerly known as the Wendel-Endsley Group, jumps genres in the best, lower downtown New York style. Kneebody's co-leader, Shane Endsley, is a trumpeter from Denver now living in New York, while saxophonist Ben Wendel lives on the other coast. The rest of the band consists of keyboardist Adam Benjamin, drummer Nate Wood and bassist Kaveh Rastegar. Along with celebrating the New Year, the band will also party to mark the release of its new CD. The quintet starts playing at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10. Information: 303-839- 5100. Before Kneebody hits the stage at Dazzle, a student septet from the Denver School of the Arts and the Career Education Center will play from 5 until 8 p.m.

12/11-There are 2 new pictures under "various pictures" on the Kneebody site of Nate playing Saxophone. These are a treat and show Nate is branching out in his musical talents.

Also, some "newer" pictures of Nate can be found at Scott Farr's site:

Nate appears in pictures 1, 3, 4, and rather blurry in picture 10.
Also, it has already been asked of me if John Wood and Nate Wood are related. The answer can be found on the CD Baby link for Scott Farrs CD. "You would think that two musicians of such high caliber talent with the last name Wood are related. However, they are not."

11/4/03-The Calling Sued By Former Bandmates

MTV Account

As the Calling's lead singer Alex Band and guitarist Aaron Kamin finish work on their as-yet-untitled second album, the two have been hit with a lawsuit by former members Billy Mohler (bass) and Nate Wood (drums).

The pair filed suit in Los Angeles Superior Court on Thursday against Band, Kamin and their management company citing fraud and mismanagement and asking for an accounting of funds during the time they spent in the group. Mohler and Wood played on three tracks on the Calling's 2001 debut, Camino Palmero ("Nothing's Changed," "Things Don't Always Turn Out That Way" and "Final Answer"), and toured with the group in 2001 and 2002 in the U.S. and overseas.

In the suit, Mohler and Wood allege that they were promised a share of the band's royalties, as well as money from merchandising and touring, according to one of the lawyers who prepared the suit, Pamela Koslyn. However, they were allegedly told that after two years as hired members of the group they would only receive $700 on top of the $26,000 they had been paid for their two-year stint, Koslyn said.

Band and Kamin are the founders of the group and they hired Mohler and Wood to be their rhythm section in 2001, but Koslyn said her clients believed they were members of the band, not hired hands.

"They were not told they were being brought on as session musicians," Koslyn said. "They were also repeatedly told that there were no final accounting numbers and when the tour was over, they were told they would get paid what was owed them, which was $700 each." Koslyn said she believes the band grossed more than $1 million on tour during the time her clients performed over 175 dates with them and that the group continues to make money on merchandising of T-shirts that feature her clients' images.

A spokesperson for the Calling's label, RCA Records, had no comment on the suit.

Meanwhile, Band and Kamin are in the studio mixing their second album, which is slated for release in early 2004, according to the RCA spokesperson. A video for the as-yet-unannounced first single will be shot in December, followed by a promotional tour of Europe. Band and Kamin will be back in the U.S. in January and February for a string of promotional dates and appearances. It has not yet been announced who will replace Mohler and Wood as the band's rhythm section.
—Gil Kaufman

I have been asked my opinion of the situation and my only comment is this...I do support Nate Wood in any and all endevours and wish that the outcome is civil.

9/15/03-Wishing Kneebody all the best this evening. Just visited their site and this was posted:

Since those photos seem to be taking a while to materialize, you should also wait for an amazing photojournal account of Nate Wood's artistically rewarding and fulfilling (I'm sure) experience as a saxophone wizard!

Why am I not surprized that Nate has branched out into Saxophone..especially after recording his own CD. Please visit Kneebody's site at:

5/3/03-Some exciting news from Kneebody:

We're now in a period of 3 weeks of intensive rehearsal, which will be followed by a week of shows in the Colorado from May 16-22, and then by that most magnificent of events: the recording of a **NEW ALBUM**. Details at this point are strictly hush-hush, but we can disclose that we will be recording for an extended time on a comfortable schedule in a well-known facility run by a world-class engineer. Luckily for us, that world-class engineer is out of town! Additionally, one member of the band (can you guess who?) gets to call that world-class engineer "Dad", resulting in the fortuitous circumstance in which we have access to these remarkable facilities (located directly on the Pacific Coast of Southern California, I might add). So to all our fans and supporters, thank you! We'd love to see you in Colorado this month, but regardless of your attendance / non-attendance status for our Colorado events, please know you may happily anticipate a juicy, exciting tenderloin of an album under the name "Kneebody" in the coming months. We look forward to sharing it with you.

If you didn't already know, Nate's dad is an incredibly talented Music Engineer, so my guess is that this new album will be recorded at Nate's parents. ;) Also...for those of you that live anywhere near Colorado, check out Kneebody while they are on tour. To find specific location information, go to:

4/24/03-Nate has been added to the Kneebody site. Here is what is said about Nate:

Nate Wood - Drums
Nate graduated from the California Institute of the Arts, where he studied with Jazz greats such as Charlie Haden and Joe Labarbara. Since graduating Nate has toured the world many times over with pop/rock band The Calling. Nate has also had the privilege of working with such acts as Chaka Khan, Melvin Davis (Chaka's virtuoso bass player) as well as many of LA's smooth jazz luminaries. On top of being an active session player, Nate has recently completed his first solo album featuring his own compositions and him playing all the instruments.

This is yet another reason to check out Kneebody. Samples of their music can be found on my downloads page. You can visit their site on my Nate's links page.

4/21/03-I just got back from seeing Kneebody perform in New York. It was an amazing set..even if they played on the "smallest" stage ever. Nate was in very good spirits and I was very glad to get a chance to talk to him. So...what is the news?? Well...Nate has recorded his own CD titled "Reliving". Yes, Nate plays all the instruments (drums, guitar, bass, keyboards) as well as sings all the vocals. Nate has created his own website, here is the link:

Nate Wood's Site

It is not up yet...but Nate promised it should be up soon. So what can I tell you about this CD?? Well...as you can imagine, I spent my long drive home listening to the CD and there are a few things that struck me. 1. Nate has a more extensive vocal range than I had originally given him credit for. 2. Some of the songs reminded me of GanFu (the band Nate was in with Billy prior to The Calling). 3. I give Nate TONS of credit for taking the time to write these songs, record them and then be willing to share them with his fans. One important note...Nate is not Alex Band...so don't be looking for the same style as Nate's is very much his own. I definately encourage all fans of Nate to buy the CD. It will be available on Nate's site once it is active. :)

4/2/03-I'm very excited to bring to your attention the 3 week tour of Kneebody. I believe Nate will be playing drums as their drummer Scott Seivel is touring with Jason Mraz at the moment. If you can, try to make it to one of these upcoming shows...you will not be disappointed!! Instead of posting all the dates, here is the link to Kneebody's site:
